FAQs

What? When? Why? How?

What is Search Engine Optimisation (SEO)?

Search Engine Optimisation (SEO) is the process of ‘tuning’ your website so that it appears in the results displayed in search tools such as Google and Yahoo, for people who are looking for what you have to offer.

What is the World Wide Web Consortium (W3C)?

The World Wide Web Consortium (W3C) is an international community that develops standards to ensure the long-term growth of the Web. Websites developed according to this standard:

  • Appear and function successfully on multiple browsers, ensuring that more visitors enjoy your website, and are therefore more likely to revisit.
  • Are more economical and efficient to update, making it cost-effective to make changes or even restyle your website in the event of a significant change in your business, such as a rebrand.
  • Enjoy a certain amount of future-proofing, so that as older technologies and construction methods are no longer supported, your website continues to function. This ensures that your website has a longer shelf-life, and avoids costly reconstruction.

What is Flash?

Adobe Flash is used on web pages to animate text, images, graphics and video, and takes the form of a movie. In order to view a Flash movie, you need to have the Flash Player installed on your browser. Unfortunately there is no Flash Player available for the Apple iPhone, iPod touch or iPad, so any Flash movies contained within websites will not play on these devices, and will display a broken link icon instead.

What is a favicon?

A favicon is a small symbol that appears next to website address in the browser window. It reinforces the identity of your website, and will appear in the history on visitors browsers.
